EESA – Electric Energy Society of Australia
The EESA is a Technical Society of the Institution of Engineers Australia and consists of the former Electricity Supply Engineers Association Inc. and chapters being formed in regions throughout Australia. The EESA brings together those involved in generation, transmission, distribution, retail and customer end-use in the electricity energy industry with the mission of providing opportunities for the sharing and transfer of knowledge amongst members involved in that industry. EESA has these activities including conferences and seminars; a monthly bulletin/newsletter with editorial, industry related news, Australian and International conference information and prizes and awards for best papers – the Conway and Cresswell Prizes and prizes for selected University students. EESA works in conjunction with electricity organisation such as ESAA and AEEMA and it is a member of the Australian Liaison Committee for CIRED(Conference International Reticulation and Distribution).

The Institution of Electrical Engineers is a London based world wide professional engineering society, the largest in Europe, with membership around 140,000. Founded in 1879, it was the first professional electrical engineering society. There are many Australian members who are associated with local regional branches. The scope of the IEE includes electrical, electronic, information science and technology, communications, and manufacturing science and technology world wide. Key activities include publishing, organisation of conferences, maintenance of technical standards, interaction with government departments, and the provision of scientific and technical information services.
Institution of Engineers Australia
This is the largest and most diverse professional engineering association in Australia with around 60,000 members. It embraces all disciplines of engineering and it is active in all regions of Australia. It was established in 1919, granted a Royal Charter in 1938, and a Supplemental Royal Charter in 1993. A Council, led by the national president governs the Institution. Administration is led by a chief executive who directs and guides divisions and regional offices in all states. A subsidiary company Engineers Australia Pty Ltd has the principal function of publishing the Institution’s monthly journal Engineers Australia. EA Books operates an on line and mail order technical bookshop selling textbooks from local and overeseas publishers and Institution products. Another subsidiary company Engineering Education Australia Pty Ltd is a broker and facilitor of CPD courses with postgraduate and undergraduate courses delivered by distance – education by Australian Universities. It also manages Entrain, an on-line searchable database of CPD non-credit courses recognised by the Institution. The IEAust is the relevant authority in Australia for assessing overseas engineering qualifications for recognition to practice in Australia in one of the three categories of professional engineer, engineering technologist, or engineering associate. IEAust has mutual recognition agreements with the American Society of Civil Engineers, Institution of Chemical Engineers, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and Institution of Engineers, Ireland.
