| A group of 10 companies including Areva SA and Siemens AG will propose a plan today for a North Sea electricity ″super-grid″ connecting the U.K., Germany and Norway, the Financial Times has just reported.The group, called the Friends of the Super-grid, aims to appoint a chief executive officer and establish a Brussels office, the newspaper said.It is expected a grid connecting the three countries would cost €34bln ($46bln).The Super Grid will be the single largest construction project ever undertaken in the EU.It will also be one of the world’s most sophisticated.In the main the grid will link Europe with Britain and Ireland using offshore wind farms in northern Europe and solar farms in the Mediterranean countries.A spokesperson said the consortium will be a learning curve from 2010 to 2020. |
